Team Lead: Corporate Environmental Sustainability Initiative (Cesi)
The purpose of this initiative is to lead the City of Lethbridge internal organization in a coordinated effort towards environmental sustainability. The focus is on the internal, every-day business activities that affect the health of land, air and water and consume natural resources. The work involved leading a cross-departmental, cross-functional team in the collection of data and anecdotal information to create a baseline from which to set performance targets. The team works in a collaborative way which respects and values the expertise, experience, knowledge and opinions of each member. I had the opportunity to form the team from the very beginning and then to lead them through strategic planning, analyze and summarize team input, share information and collect feedback from the entire organization through engagement activities, report to senior management and plan next steps before handing off to the next team lead. My position was the first of it's kind in the organization and so a lot of flexibility and resiliency was required to let the initiative naturally evolve. This is an initiative where success is based on instilling personal ownership throughout the entire organization, so was an excellent 'people project' as well as a technical challenge.
