I've spent my career focused on some of the most powerful upstream drivers of health status and health care costs: land use planning, transportation options, and housing access and affordability. One's zip code can determine whether you have access to safe places to be physically active, whether you are exposed to too much particulate matter from industry and auto emissions, how many tobacco retailers are in your neighborhood, and whether your housing cost leaves enough left over each month for quality food, needed medications, and saving for future goals such as higher education. Using data and evidence, cultivating long-term mutually beneficial strategic partnerships, and leading external communications to engage key stakeholders, I've managed a variety of initiatives -- whether building actual housing units or passing policies that consider health in planning -- that ultimately create the changes we need to improve population health.
