Heather Mcelroy is a Research Assistant at Santa Cruz Biotechnology at Santa Cruz Biotechnology. Colleagues describe her as "I have had the pleasure of supervising Heather for four years at Santa Cruz Biotechnology as a Lead Research Associate for the Polyclonal Antibody Group. Heather is an excellent employee and will no doubt succeed in whatever position she chooses to pursue within a company. While working in the Polyclonal laboratory, Heather became proficient in the conjugation of polyclonal antibodies, antibody purification, and ELISA testing, as well as many other laboratory analyses. Due to her excellent laboratory technique, maturity, and excellent communication with others, Heather was chosen to be transferred to the Peptide Synthesis laboratory when the company restructured in 2008. Her successful transition into the Peptide Synthesis laboratory showed off her leadership skills and training capabilities. Over the years, Heather has helped organize and restructure both the Polyclonal laboratory as well as the Peptide Synthesis laboratory by recognizing a need in the group and taking the initiative to get the task done. One example is when Heather recognized the Peptide Synthesis laboratory did not have complete records of protocols that were used on a daily basis. In response, Heather created a detailed training manual to help new employees transition more easily into their new position. In working for both the Polyclonal Antibody laboratory and Peptide Synthesis laboratory, Heather has also had extensive training in laboratory safety, including hazardous chemical safety training. Heather has experience working with many different types of laboratory equipment, including flow hoods, centrifuges, balances, HPLC machines, ELISA detection systems, and often trains other employees in the appropriate safety precautions, maintenance and cleaning of this equipment. Heather has also been trained in the proper use of fire extinguishers and fire blankets, is respirator certified, and is accustomed to referencing MSDS forms and handling caustic and flammable liquids regularly. Heather has a wonderful rapport with people from all different departments of the company. Her ability to connect with other work associates and her talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both truly superior. She has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, reliable and computer literate. Heather can work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job gets done. She accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude. Heather’s success as Santa Cruz Biotechnology can be attributed to her hard work and strong work ethic, but Heather’s kindness and the way she treats others with respect makes her stand out tremendously from her peers."
