As an independent scholar and architectural historian, I primarily conduct archival research, compile and analyze historical data, and produce written reports with images for clients. I was contractually hired as a Historic Preservation Planner with the City of Alexandria's Department of Planning and Zoning in a temporary capacity. Duties include:  Preparing staff reports for two Boards of Architectural Review (BAR); Conducting architectural, historical and zoning research related to BAR cases and inquiries; Providing on-site historic preservation assistance to the public and staff; Taking in and assisting applicants with Certificate of Appropriateness and Permit to Demolishapplications and fee calculations; Providing expertise in working with City staff, the public, design professionals and contractors onvarious aspects of the preservation planning, design review and enforcement; and Working with preservation planners on a variety of special historic preservation projects andinitiatives.

A part-time position, I'll be responsible for tracking membership, organizing the CPSA annual symposium and frequent study tours, and working on the newsletter, as well as other tasks that arise.

I was hired in a temporary consulting capacity to produce documentation on the University's recent supercomputer acquisition. By the end of my tenure, I will have produced a number of deliverables, including a master policy document oriented towards users, system administrators, and governance committee members.

I contributed on-line content to the TCLF databases, What's Out There and Pioneers in Landscape Design, copy-edited submitted content for these two databases, and wrote other materials as needed.

Besides recruiting, scheduling, and training volunteers to give tours of the Beverley/Chapman Mill, I attended and initiated fundraising initiatives, represented the organization at community meetings and town festivals, acted as media liaison, planned events, kept the membership roster up-to-date, and undertook administrative tasks.

I taught an undergraduate class (approximately 15 students) on the history of Washington, D.C. art and architecture. This required creating lesson plans and lectures, planning field trips, delivering lectures and leading discussions, assigning and grading projects, tests and papers, and evaluating students.

Serving as an architectural historian in a Cultural Resource Management consulting firm, I participated in the survey and evaluation of buildings and structures as well as in historic preservation compliance projects, including a Program Comment for the Department of Defense and a National Register evaluation of the U.S. Naval Academy Yard in Annapolis, MD as part of a Getty Grant.

As acting Assistant Director, I managed a staff of approximately ten part-time graduate and undergraduate student workers; assisted in staff training; created a work flow system for the student workers; maintained an in-house database and cataloged images for use by the university's faculty, staff and students; digitized images;

Through the Institute of Public History at the University of Virginia, I was selected for a summer internship with the Capitol Square Preservation Council's Executive Director, James Wootton. I researched the architectural and social histories of four state-owned buildings in downtown Richmond, eventually compiling a lengthy report and analysis for the CSPC.

I wrote at least two articles per month for The Charlottesville Business Journal and HealthBeat Magazine, two publications owned by MediaGeneral and housed in the Charlottesville Daily Progress building. This required conducting interviews in person, through correspondence, and over the telephone as well as background research. I also copy-edited submitted articles by regular contributors, contributed photographs to accompany articles, accomplished graphic design and layout using Adobe Photoshop and Quark Xpress, and undertook basic administrative tasks in the office.
