To create a community in which performers with and without disabilities come together to create theatrical works of art.Company OverviewWriter and Director: Heather Pickering Choreographer: Andrea Schaefer of Barefoot Dance Studio. Founded in 2008 with the production entitled: "Flutter," which was produced by Black Hills Community Theatre, The Suzie Cappa Arts Center and was funded by The National Endowment for the Arts and the Allied Arts Fund - Stanford Adelstein Grant. In 2010, a second show was produced entitled, "Vita," by the Suzie Cappa Arts Center, funded by The South Dakota Arts Council, the Allied Arts Fund - Stanford Adelstein Grant and supported in part by Black Hills Community Theatre. From "Flutter" another production company was founded, Outright Dance Theatre, A dance and theatre company based on contemporary dance and theatre. Integrating dancers of all abilities. In 2011, Heather Pickering and Andrea Schaefer were nationally recognized by the ANCOR Foundation, an organization that supports over 500,000 Americans with disabilities for their Community Building. The two were selected from 600 agencies across the United States. In 2012 a third original production was produced entitled: "Quintessence" and was funded by the South Dakota Arts Council and the Black Hills Works Foundation - the Suzie Cappa Tea Fundraiser.Description: Heather Pickering, Writer and Director Andrea Schaefer, Choreographer We work together to create an original narrative, specifically designed to feature performers with and without intellectual and physical disabilities. The original narrative is turned into a mixed-ability movement piece that features theatre, modern dance, and recycled works of art that come to life on stage.
