Mainstream, 1-1, and SENDay to day, short and long term workDescription: Mainstream, SEN and 1-1 teaching assistant in both mainstream and SEN schools.• ABLLS-R• Team Teach• PIVOTS• Integrating children into mainstream schools• CAHMS meetings• Adjusting work for ability• Building positive relationships with parents, guardians and children• Safeguarding• An ability to adapt to new surroundings, staff, children and expectations• Covering lessonsOne specific supply role included integrating children into mainstream classes working with MLD, ADHD and PDA leading me to working closely with CAHMS, monitoring progress through the use of PIVOTS, adapting work to their ability and making individual resources to progress their learning whilst still being included in the class activity and giving 1-1 lessons when any sessions have been missed. Although working closely with the children, I encouraged independence to allow them to thrive. This role allowed me to support the children academically, socially and emotionally, increasing peer interaction, and confidence within themselves and their work.Another supply role, I completed a short-term supply in a specialised SEN setting, working in a classroom with various special educational needs including ASD, MLD, SLD, and emotional, social and behavioural difficulties. In this class, I was working 1-1 with a child that has downs syndrome, building a trusting relationship that allowed us both to work together in order to progress both socially and academically through the completion of his ABLLS-R. Despite significant difficulties in behaviour, listening and attention, and communication, we were able to complete a number of targets in a short space of time due to creative activities which he enjoyed and allowed him to learn in engaging ways, allowing him to enjoy his learning more and increase his interaction with peers and their lessons.
