Responsible for carrying out a range of investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases and injuries. Specific tasks include:- Provide epidemiologic functions such as analysis, collection, and interpretation of Federal, State, and Tribal health information, to the Indian Health Services (IHS) Bemidji service area.- Participates in developing epidemiologic investigations/studies using scientific, technical methods and practices to identify and evaluate health conditions.- Provide assistance with health data collection, using data for program planning, and program evaluation in areas of chronic disease, infectious disease, maternal and child health, and others as defined by the needs of the service area.- Perform analysis by using epidemiologic statistical techniques to interpret and analyze.- Use surveillance systems to collect disease and health outcome data.- Conduct literature reviews and assist in preparing reports using behavioral science, demographic and epidemiologic techniques, and evaluation.- Make oral presentations to diverse audiences, both scientific and non-scientific.- Work with State public health staff and Indian Health Service staff to acquire data needed for health profiles and to coordinate public health training and initiatives with Tribes.

Communication skills – Constant interactions with customers and staff have enabled me to gain the skills needed for clear, concise, and respectable communication. High pressure situations – This type of working environment has helped me develop the skills needed to handle spontaneous and high pressure situations. Tasks include: Strictly adhering to office policies and procedures, especially regarding confidentiality, assisting in resolving problems with customers, provide information by answering questions and requests, preparing and editing documents like letters, reports, memos, and emails, providing administrative and clerical support (mailing, scanning, faxing, copying, filing).

I applied for, and was given acceptance for a grant from the UNR Undergraduate Research Department to do research with the City of Reno. Research done for the City of Reno on community cohesion, fear of crime, public parkland, safe communities, and senior satisfaction. Involved designing a survey using STAR Community’s benchmark requirements in order to meet satisfaction levels for the City of Reno to become a ‘STAR Certified’ community. With the help of my mentor and a UNR graduate student, we developed an edited draft of the City of Reno’s community survey for 2019.

This was a summer internship done with the Washoe County Health District as a requirement for receiving my Master’s of Public Health Epidemiology degree from the University of Nevada - Reno. My internship project assignment was to create the 2019 Washoe Regional Behavioral Health Profile, an epidemiologic profile used by the Washoe Regional Behavioral Health Policy Board and available to the public. This project involved requesting and collecting substance use/abuse, suicide, and behavioral and mental health data from outside sources. Data was then organized and compiled into a comprehensive profile that shows Washoe County, Nevada, and United States indicator comparisons.

Involves compiling teaching materials on a range of different subjects associated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and basic life skills training, and leading client group sessions that are contracted by Washoe County. Involves inputting information into ISALUS Healthcare program, and submitting for billing through program.
