About Heather Singmaster
I work to ensure that students are globally competent: able to compete, connect, andcooperate with people from diverse backgrounds, whether as part of an international team or with people in our increasingly diverse country. At Digital Promise Global, I lead (including partnership development, fundraising, and project management) two major projects: The Global Cities Education Network (GCEN) and A Future-Ready Workforce: Preparing Students for a Global Economy. GCEN is the world’s only high-level collaborative learning network of education policymakers from leading urban school systems in the Asia-Pacific region and North America. This international learning community seeks to share promising practices and develop responses to systemic education problems, ultimately improving education for all. GCEN is unique due to its community of practice which invites mixed teams of stakeholders from not only education, but also business and policy, to: learn while sharing strengths and challenges; interact with international experts and have experiences that challenge systems to reflect on problems in new ways, lending credibility to new ideas and practices; and receive support to implement, innovate, and to identify, test, and refine solutions. The Future-Ready Workforce project builds focuses on making global competence an essential part of US education reform. For the last eight years, in partnership with major, national CTE organizations, I have led the work to create widely used professional development materials for career and technical education (vocational) instructors at the secondary and postsecondary levels. These materials include free interactive, online professional development modules, a free online toolkit of resources, and in-person and virtual training workshops. In addition, I organize and lead the monthly #Globaledchat on Twitter and also hosted the Global Learning blog on Education Week for eight years (http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/global_learning/).
Listed skills include International Development, Communication Skills, Public Policy, Grant Administration, and 46 others.
