About Heather Walling Doty
l am an associate professor in mechanical engineering at the University of Delaware (UD). I teach undergraduate courses in classical mechanics and thermodynamics. As co-PI on UD's National Science Foundation Institutional Transformation grant, I am part of a team that works with faculty and administrators to broaden participation in STEM faculty positions. I am faculty advisor to the UD's Women in Engineering Graduate Student Steering Committee. My recent research is in philosophy of science, specifically the role of values in science and the role of science in society. My work tends to focus on equity issues within the scientific workforce. My scientific research background is in electrical transport in two-dimensional systems. I have experience writing NSF and foundation grants. Specialties: physics, mechanical engineering, formal mentoring, active recruitment, academic program management, physics and engineering education, science outreach, grant writing
