Currently I am the Front Desk Supervisor at the Hilton Garden Inn - Champaign/Urbana. This hotel, has 99 guest rooms, a full service restaurant, and a conference center. Working at the front desk, I need to know all the events going on in the hotel that day. I take on a lot of different responsibilities being at this property. These include: assisting guests with any questions they may have, relay information and updates to all departments, and answering the phone effectively. Having a positive attitude is key to working in this position. Not only do I need to be ready for whatever the guest may need, I also need to be an effective team player. The hotel will only work effectively if everyone is pulling their weight. I notify housekeeping if something changes in their schedule, let maintenance know of any issues, and communicate with the sales department to make sure all event reservations are made correctly. Recently, the staff awarded me with the friendliest front desk agent award. Within a month of working the desk, I was training new staff members. My manager gave me this responsibility because she relies on me to do my best work and pass that on to new front desk associates. Not only can I work the desk during the day, I can also preform the Night Audit duties. This is a position I taught myself. Apart from my daily duties at the desk I oversee direct billing for 30 plus accounts and manage our gift shop pantry at a 35% food costs. I enjoy working at the front desk and am pleased when I hear a guest say that they have enjoyed their stay because I helped in some way. This is my first position at a hotel and I hope to expand to other departments in the hotel industry.

During my time with the Walt Disney Company at Walt Disney World, I worked at Moue Gear in Epcot. Everyday was different from the day before. I interacted with guests from all over the world on a frequent basis. Mouse Gear is the biggest merchandise store in Epcot and third on property. I was often placed in the jewelry area of my store. This area contained merchandise from Alex and Ani, Pandora, Vera Bradley and Dooney and Burke. Cast members are expected to approach guests and offer a personalized selling experience. My leaders, fellow cast members, and guests were always impressed in my knowledge and overall work in this area. Over the course of my time there, I learned guests recovery is a key part to any business.

Working at Dairy Queen, I learned to be on the move all the time. I worked up front, taking orders and making ice cream according to Dairy Queen standards. I needed to be fast yet effective in all of my products and work well as a team. The crew had to be ready for a rush to occur at any moments notice. When we did have some down time we had to maintain a sanitary environment.
