Manager | Data Center Operations
Sterling, Virginia, United States
As the Manager of Data Center Operations, my role was immensely diversified and oftentimes required wearing multiple hats. The role consisted of the following components: - The ability to lead a very diverse group of individuals with even more diverse mindsets and skillsets was imperative for this role. People Management was my number one priority, with my team consisting of upwards to twenty-one engineers at a time, and ensuring that not only were their needs met but that their workload was appropriately balanced, which ties into Time management. - Acting as the POC for the Hosted Infrastructure and any other lines of business, including negotiations with vendors and maintaining support contracts. This also included other responsibilities such as ensuring the uptime of all devices and the monitoring of each piece of equipment and service. The most important part of this though was acting as a liaison between our data center partner and our business. - A strong level of coordination was required for this role when it came to ticket prioritization and assignment, including but not limited to Change management. A company's strongpoint is their ability to respond rapidly to their end-users' needs. - One doesn't ever leave project management once within it, and this Management role was no exception. Whether working hand in hand with the assigned PM or assisting my teams with their assigned projects or running projects myself, project management was still within my role as the Manager of Data Center Operations.
