About Heather Lawrence-Benedict, Ph.D.

Blending a love for sport business with the most effective training methodology on the planet to move CrossFit Sport into the future.In January 2021, I transitioned from academia back to the sport industry as Director of Sport Operations at CrossFit, LLC. I am so thankful for the experiences and people that were part of my time at OHIO and now am looking forward to many years in my dream job helping to grow CrossFit and transform lives through fitness. Getting settled in a new career path means listening and learning a lot and enjoying each new challenge that comes my way. CrossFit is the world's leading platform for health, happiness, and performance and I am thrilled to be part of the growth of the company and sport. I had two books released in 2021 (20 Secrets for NCAA Student-Athletes - 2nd Ed ; Event Management Blueprint - 3rd Ed). Thanks to Ohio University, I remain a Faculty Fellow and will stay involved in the AECOM Center for Sports Administration.I have also learned that I enjoy applying experiences and areas of expertise in new ways to benefit sport. Being elected to the USA Wrestling Board of Directors and being a member of their Long Range Planning Committee and DEI Ad Hoc Committee has pushed me to grow in these areas and helped me become more well rounded. Plus, getting to work alongside the the USA Wrestling athletes and leaders during a time of tremendous global and Olympic Games successes is fun! When not in the office or at the gym, my husband Paul (Director of Ohio University's Center for Entrepreneurship) and I are at the mercy of the activities and attitudes of our two children, Samantha (13) and George (11)and we would not have it any other way!
