About Heather Macías
Dr. Heather C. Macías (she/they) is an Associate Professor in the Teacher Education Department, College of Education, at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). She is also the Program Coordinator for the Dual Language Development Master's Program. Her research interests include the preparation and teaching of secondary Ethnic Studies teachers; preservice teachers’ understanding of funds of knowledge; and supporting the needs of LGBTQIA+ preservice teachers. Dr. Macías is on two funded NSF grant projects related to integrating culturally responsive/relevant/sustaining pedagogy into higher education STEM courses. Previously, she was a La Academia de Liderazgo fellow with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. At CSULB, Dr. Macías is an executive board member for both the Latinx Faculty and Staff Association and the Queer and Trans Faculty and Staff Association. Previously, she was a public high school English/Language Arts teacher in Southern California.
