In the American Bottom Field Station I assisted in full excavation in East St. Louis where I took extensive notes filling paperwork, collecting artifact with GPS and total station accuracy, and monitored the heavy machinery for evidence of artifacts and soil changes. Sometimes I led small teams of excavators on larger, more complex features. In addition I was a part of a small group who preformed Test Pits and Grid Excavation in Cahokia, IL. For these projects as well as previous projects performed by ISAS, I worked in the laboratory to label and store artifacts in an organized manor, was accountable for the organization of the artifact logs' organization, assisted in re-labeling mislabeled finds, and lastly sorted flotation samples in the wet lab and the small fraction in the dry lab. At the Western Illinois Field Office, in the field we performed auguring, hand-units, and walk-over survey to ensure heritage preservation. When artifacts were found, feature excavation was performed to extract heritage and ensure no human remains. In the lab I primarily assisted in labeling and processing artifacts similar to the American Bottom as well as sorting and inventory of flotation samples. I was responsible for the inventory of the wet lab samples. In company free time, I reconstructed some ceramic vessels and wrote excerpts on the environmental background of various sites in Illinois.For both offices, the field and lab procedure were in accordance with laws such as NAGRPA, NHPA, AHPA, etc.
