My name is Heather, and I am currently a high school English teacher of 7 years. I just completed my Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and I have spent my career dedicated to helping students of all backgrounds gain the skills they need while stimulating a sense of intellectual curiosity that I hope will follow them into adulthood. During my career, I have fine-tuned my craft through designing and implementing effective curriculum while tailoring my instruction to a variety of learning styles and student needs. I also have gained experience as a leader through my roles as a department chair and a grade-level team leader. Juggling multiple responsibilities has taught me how to manage my time effectively and how to manage and monitor others as we work to complete projects. Through my recent course of study, I have become interested in using the skills I have gained through teaching to transition into a new career outside of education, ideally as a project manager. My background provides me with strong communication skills, an understanding of the importance of collaboration, and an ability to teach myself (and others) anything. What I may lack in content knowledge, I make up for in sheer stubbornness. I am self-starter who can adapt to any situation I am placed in, a quality which will help me bridge the gap between my current career and my new one. I have recently completed the Google Project Management certification and I am currently studying for the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification from the Project Management Institute. I’m excited about the new opportunities these certifications will bring. Learning about the principles of project management has open my eyes to the variety of ways my skills can transfer into multitude of fields as a project manager.
