Contributing EditorBoating Magazine Jan 2012 - PresentWinter Park, FloridaBoating Magazine is the world's largest recreational boating title. Over the years, I've written eclectic news items for "Making Waves," Q&A pieces with interesting people for "On Board With" — including surf legend Laird Hamilton, Gavin MacLeod of "The Love Boat," and a "Deadliest Catch" captain — and a variety of feature stories. These have included pieces about attending the American Power Boat Association's tunnel-boat driving school, the history and influence of Mexico's pangas (which won first place in its category in the Boating Writers International annual writing competition), boat-camping at Colorado's Blue Mesa Reservoir, sportfishing off the coast of Ensenada, Baja California, and undertaking a houseboat adventure on Lake Powell in the spectacular Glen Canyon Recreation Area. -
Contributing EditorSailing Magazine Aug 2010 - PresentPort Washington, WisconsinI've been involved with SAILING, a family-owned national title, for 25 years. I was a member of the editorial staff from 1996 to 1998, then I joined the freelance corps in 2001. In summer 2010, the staff invited me to join the masthead as a contributing editor. I've written a wide variety of articles for the magazine throughout the years, from charter-cruising stories and news features to personality profiles and book reviews.

Public Relations ManagerCheyenne River Youth Project, Inc. Jun 2006 - PresentEagle Butte, South DakotaI first became involved with CRYP, located on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, as a volunteer; I helped run "The Main" youth center for 4- to 12-year-olds for two months during summer 2006. Shortly afterward, I joined the staff as public relations manager. For nearly 18 years, I've prepared and written all the organization's press releases, e-newsletters, and e-blasts; managed its media relationships; created its website content and e-store promotions; handled its social media platforms; and worked closely with the executive director and staff on PR planning and strategy. I'm so grateful for my CRYP family and my connection to the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation; I try to go back to the reservation at least once a year. It's a special place that, once it gets inside of you, never lets go. -
Contributing EditorLakeland Boating Jan 2002 - PresentChicago, IllinoisI first became involved with Lakeland Boating as a freelancer in 2002. From 2007 until 2015, I also served as the magazine's editor at large. In that capacity, I did a bit of everything: cruising stories, destination stories, special features, boat tests, "Boat Spotlight" reviews, book reviews, personality profiles, and short news items. Starting with the January 2018 issue, I also was responsible for a monthly column titled "Beneath the Surface," in which I delved into issues of interest to readers and shared the expertise of both industry leaders and experienced fellow boaters. The column concluded in the December 2024 issue. Some favorite projects from the last few years include features about the SS Eastland disaster, the Great Lakes' celebrated Christmas Tree Ship, the facts and fiction behind "The Lake Michigan Triangle," the history of the Mackinac Bridge, and a long-distance Sea-Doo adventure on Florida's Indian River Lagoon. -
Owner / Writer / EditorTimberline Media Llc 2011 - Apr 2020Pine, ColoradoMy husband, professional photographer Richard Steinberger, and I created this company for a major collaborative project: the "Home: Cheyenne River Lakota Nation" art show, and a coffee table book of the same name. The art show was on display at the Cheyenne River Youth Project's Cokata Wiconi (Center of Life) for many years, and several pieces remain on display at the public facility in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. The book remains available through CRYP's Keya Gift Shop, and through Amazon — three editions range from 8x10 to 11x13 in size, in hard cover and soft cover. On Amazon, be sure to click "See all 3 formats and editions" and the arrow next to "hardcover" to see the range of options. And 100% of the proceeds benefit the nonprofit youth organization!

Public Relations Manager—Bluefuture FundWest Marine Nov 2015 - Aug 2017Watsonville, California, United StatesWest Marine's communications department invited me to join the team as they sought to repackage and relaunch the retailer's nonprofit BlueFuture initiative. During my two years with the organization, I was responsible for all BlueFuture-related press releases, I created and managed its monthly e-newsletter and e-blast program, I designed its "BlueFuture Heroes" initiative, I managed the BlueFuture website content, and I worked closely with the communications director and the rest of the team on strategic planning and fundraising. Public Affairs ManagerFairfield Art Center Oct 2004 - Feb 2009Sturgeon Bay, WisconsinAs public affairs manager, I was responsible for promoting all artists, exhibitions, special events, and fundraising activities. I produced all press releases, handled all media relations, created a monthly e-newsletter, and spoke on local radio and at community events on behalf of the art center.
