I worked in the Warner Bros. Studio Tour while home from university. I undergo regular interaction with customers where my interpersonal skills are put to the test as I politely serve and handle any queries they may have. As I work on the tills I have experience handling money and can quickly and efficiently give the correct change. Being the face of the business, I must react to different scenarios including people visiting from all around the world and finding the best way to break down the language barrier to provide the best service possible. Due to the regular rota changes throughout the day, I also deal with stock replenishment on the shop floor and stock requests from customers and for the day stock room from the warehouse.

Being a team leader is a key part of a successful day, beginning the day with high spirit and ensuring that positivity is kept throughout. I have conducted interviews to expand our section and been responsible for financial expenses, weekly team reports and organisation for weeks locations and deleneations upcoming.

Shelter is a charity working with millions of people yearly who struggling with bad housing or homelessness. They can provide advice, support and legal services to those in need while also campaigning for change. As a street fundraiser I used my outgoing and enthusiastic personality to represent and raise awareness of the charity. I worked on a variety of high street locations with a team to approach members of the public, explaining the importance of Shelters work and to inspire public support with a regular financial gift. From this role I enhanced my customer and communication skills by adapting the conversation to fit the personalities I met. Fundraisers encounter a high immediate rejection rate however I was able to keep up a positive attitude and succeed.

Sports Direct is also a large chain store in clothing retail focused of selling mostly sporting products. Having worked in clothing retail before I could use my previously gained skills to build and expand them. My role included customer service on the shop floor as well as at the till, collecting click and collect deliveries for customers, replenishing stock and team work to ensure the shop floor was tidied and presentable throughout my shift and ready for the next day. At Sports Direct I gained new skills including morning deliveries. This new section of work included arriving before the store opened to manage the newly arrived stock. Some of the stock included replenishment of products already out but also new stock was needed to be placed strategically on the shop floor.

Waitrose is a large British supermarket company, included in the John Lewis partnership, co-owned by its partners who are employed. My role at Waitrose was to serve customers on the tills and occasionally around the shop floor when a customer is in need of a specific item. I also broadened my range of skills at the Manchester branch where I reduced daily stock and helped to replenish the shelves. I also learned how to handle money and how to cash up at the end of the day securely. In the Chesham branch, I acquired a supervisor number giving me the opportunity to take extra responsibilities and supervise the other members of my team; for example, when underage cashiers are selling alcohol it must be approved by a supervisor.

M&Co is a larger, chain store selling clothes. My role was a sales assistant on Saturdays and Sundays, where I worked both on the tills and shop floor. My customer service skills improved within this role as approaching customers to ask if they were in need of help was more regular. As a sales assistant I sold products, helped customers with specific requests and advice, kept the store tidy and presentable as well as changing stock to fit the coming fashion seasons and on occasion answered customer calls to the store. Working at M&Co gave me retail experience as well as confidence.

The Bakery is an independently owned bakery, cafe and sandwich shop, offering a takeaway and sit-in service, as well as selling a range of breads and cakes. I was employed mainly on a Saturday but have filled in during school holidays if required and my role is the same as the full-time employees. This involves dealing with all aspects of the food and drink service from taking bread/cake orders, making up sandwiches on request, drinks orders, waitressing, and using the till. I also clean the tables and the fridges, sweep the floor to ensure good hygiene and replenish any of the product displays as required.We have many regular customers and I have enjoyed the opportunity to improve my confidence talking to a range of customers and getting positive feedback from them. I have learned a lot about customer service from Mr Bartholomew, the owner.
