Supported a 911 dispatch center with a focus on availability, redundancy, security and an easy user experience. Supported 150 local users and 5 cities of first responders. Environment consisted of EMC, and NetApp storage arrays, 3 vSphere environments, two Windows domains, over 100 servers, 50 zero clients, etc. Recent projects completed:• NetApp replacement to all flash and hybrid arrays greatly increasing performance for all virtual machines and decreasing file access times for users. • Horizon View upgrade to 7.3 from 6.0. Project cut login times by 75% and provisioning times by 50%.• Virtualization of physical SQL cluster from 2005/2008 to SQL 2016 Always On. Virtualizing SQL provides for a much faster maintenance window, less service interruptions and better protection for the critical databases.• CommVault upgrade and migration from LTO tape drives to Amazon AWS S3 buckets. By automating the backup process and moving away from physical tapes, ValleyCom saves thousands of dollars and about 100 man hours annually. File recovery of historic data is now hours instead of days previously spent waiting on tapes.• Implemented SSO via Microsoft ADFS to drastically cut down user managed external passwords.• Group Policy audit and redesign. New objects implemented include item level tagging, software deployments, UI/UX customization, etc. With these changes, users experience a more seamless workflow across multiple environments.• Architect, purchase and deploy new vSphere environment to support Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) virtualization. This project will combine 15 physical servers into the three new ESXI servers. This move will save more than $60,000 annually in server warranty and licensing after decommissioning the Stratus servers. -
