I am currently taking a career break to care for my two children. My little boy WIlliam has Autism, so I am dedicating my time to supporting him and developing his skills to prepare him for school. This is an unexpected learning experience and I am proud to be able to say that I have taught my son how to communicate using Makaton and that his favourite pastime is reading books!I am embarking on some creative work this spring and hope to be able to get more involved after September 2015.

My role as Senior Designer involved finding and commissioning illustrators, some picture research and managing budgets for each title I worked on. I worked in the Non Fiction section of Kingfisher Childrens Books, which became part of Macmillan in 2007. My projects were varied and spanned different age groups which was challenging but enjoyable.

The Strand, London

As part of the Pearson Reading Project, I worked at DKs main office with a small team of editors and designers producing Non Fiction titles for schools, more specifically, reluctant readers.

As part of the Childrens Books department, I worked on numerous licenses, including Bob the Builder, Tweenies, Bill and Ben, Fimbles and Angelmouse. I had to design new novelty book formats and actually did all the paper engineering for a Bill and Ben pop-up title. I really enjoyed my work with all the characters I was involved with.

My first position as Designer was in the Own Brand department, working on stationery items such as calendars, diaries, photo albums and gift sets using licenses such as Winnie-the Pooh, Disney Pooh, Legoland and Barbie. After a year I transferred to the Non Fiction department and designed books on pet care, vocations and other educational subjects.
