Nexus Planning is an independent planning practice, operating from offices in London, Manchester, Thames Valley and Birmingham. Nexus comprises a highly skilled and experienced team of planning and regeneration consultants supporting clients across the UK.Heidi joined the London team in June 2017 as a Planner, before being promoted to Senior Planner (January 2018) and Principal Planner (August 2019). Heidi's role at Nexus Planning involved preparing planning statements and submitting planning applications for a variety of minor and major schemes; preparation of appeal statements; negotiating with local planning authorities; liaising with clients, specialist consultants and stakeholders; and undertaking site appraisals for sites in London and throughout the UK including providing development advice and planning strategy advice to clients.Heidi was involved in large greenfield urban extension projects, a major build-to-rent scheme, prominent office fit-out and refurbishment projects in the City of London, private school redevelopments and community engagement, and a variety of residential and commercial infill projects. Heidi was also involved with the preparation of community needs and retail and leisure studies for local councils, and assisted with undertaking socioeconomic impact assessments, economic benefits analysis and other analytics works as part of Nexus Planning’s Research and Analytics branch.

Heidi's role at Ealing Council involved processing and assessing a variety of major and minor planning applications for lawful development certificates, advertisement consent, discharge of conditions, householder planning permission for residential extensions, full planning permission, change of use and listed building consent. As part of her role as Planning Officer, Heidi was required to provide town planning advice to applicants, agents, local organisations, other Council Departments and members of the public. She also undertook site specific investigations to provide detailed planning advice in relation to pre-application proposals. In this role, Heidi developed a thorough understanding of the National Planning Policy Framework 2012, London Plan 2015, the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, and the Town and Country Planning Act (Generally Permitted Development) Order 2015.

Heidi's role at Arcadis included preparing and managing development applications for residential, commercial and industrial land uses, addressing land use compliance issues, undertaking detailed planning research, conducting highest and best land use assessments, project management, and reviewing infrastructure contributions. Most recently, Heidi has worked on development feasibility investigations and conducting market research for clients. She has recently been involved in the procurement phase of large scale infrastructure projects in Queensland, undertaking both tender evaluation and transaction management roles. Heidi’s experience with development applications and addressing land use compliance issues is underpinned by her ability to maintain an efficient working relationship with both clients and local government officers, and her accurate interpretation of statutory planning instruments.

In her final year of University, Heidi was employed to tutor a combined second and third year planning course at the University of Queensland. The course covered planning for public transport, active transport, freight movement, social infrastructure, water, energy and waste.

Throughout her degree, Heidi was actively involved in the University of Queensland's Organisation of Planning Students (OOPS), & was elected president of this society in 2013. In her role as president, Heidi facilitated professional & social networking events for students studying Town Planning at UQ, & aided in fostering a strong relationship between students & potential employers within the town planning industry.

Heidi worked in Aurecon’s Telecommunications Planning division in Brisbane during her university studies. Heidi’s role principally involved working for Telstra and NBN on the siting and approvals of telecommunication towers and upgrades. Her role included conducting planning investigations under a variety of Queensland and New South Wales planning schemes, organising public notification and cost benefit analyses of potential sites. In this position, Heidi gained a thorough understanding of the Telecommunications (Low-Impact Facilities) Determination 1997.

Heidi commenced working for the Flinders Group (subsequently known as Arcadis) during her second year of university. In Heidi’s role as a Student Planner, she conducted demographic research and analysis for Social and Economic Impact Assessments. She was also involved in planning investigations for a variety of small to large scale development applications within Queensland and researched and reviewed planning legislation and policy at the local and State Government level.
