Dr. Freeman began her career in sport as a competitive and professional figure skater, and her experiences as a performer led to her interest in sport psychology. Her background is a combination of counseling psychology and exercise science, and she has worked with both clinical and non-clinical populations. Dr. Freeman’s clinical experience includes the treatment of adolescents and adults with eating disorders, children with attention disorders, adolescents in crisis, and in therapeutic outdoor recreation. Her non-clinical work includes teaching mental skills for performance enhancement and emotional resilience to athletes and members of the U.S. Military. Dr. Freeman’s current interests are in mindfulness and contemplative practices in education, and building emotional resilience through curricular and co-curricular experiences. She has been trained in mindfulness education through the Mindful Schools organization, and has taught mindfulness to elementary school children as well as her college students, faculty, and staff.
