Building on the powerful movement ignited by Rahwa and Asmeret Habte at Hidmo Eritrean Cuisine on Jackson Street, Hidmo Cypher continued to foster a home for music, art, culture and authentic self-expression as an anchor tenant at Washington Hall (2011-present). I contributed significantly to the community driven $10M capital campaign efforts, and the rehabilitation planning of the historic landmark done in partnership with Historic Seattle. We rebranded as Black Power Unlimited (BPU) in 2018, two years after the building re-opened, dedicating focus to place-keeping for Seattle’s Historically Black Central District. BPU continues to operate the first floor of Washington Hall in partnership with Creative Justice who opened the Creative Cafe in January 2024.
