I am a float teacher at Rainbow Connection. I work mainly in the afternoon hours so I have an afternoon lesson plan and schedule that is loose because of the child rotation in our groups as children leave to go home. A typical day starts with me settling the children down and helping them to nap. From there all the teacher do a chore; cleaning the kitchen floor, cleaning the bathrooms, cleaning high chairs or cleaning the locker area. After those are done I usually take any extra time I have before my children wake up to work on lesson plans and projects for the next week or two. At 2pm nap time is over and its is time to put away sleeping bags and change diapers or got to the toilet with the group I have. Snack is at 2:30pm then we go outside at 2:45ish and enjoy the fresh air, of course we have an outdoor activity planned as well. After we come back in and get all of our outside clothes in our lockers, we get a drink and come to the table again to do an activity, usually some art or a game. As the afternoon tapers on I end up with children of varying ages in my group so we end with group and then free-play. By the time 4pm comes around there are now closing jobs to be done while balancing child and teacher ratio, managing the roster, taking payments from random parents or answering the phones. Usually I work till 5pm or 5:30pm and by then everything is done and the building is ready for the nest day to begin. I love my job!
