As a Community Engagement Officer with YELL Canada, I work closely with stakeholders across the Northern BC region to ensure our programming is closely integrated with each community’s values and explore new opportunities for expansion. I recruit new Speakers, Mentors, Judges, and community champions to help spark an entrepreneurial mindset in youth throughout the region. I conduct outreach, onboarding, and coaching where required, and provide ongoing support and coordinate between teachers the bright professional brought into our classes throughout each semester.YELL North provides an alternate curriculum for the grade 12 entrepreneurship course and focuses on fostering an entrepreneurial mindset. Through this program, students learn the art and practice of solving problems, developing a growth mindset, and how to turn an idea into reality. This program brings a number of speakers and mentors from the local business community into the classroom to inspire and provide guidance. Students work in teams to develop a business or social enterprise model around their chosen product or service. These classes culminate in regional and provincial pitch competitions where teams are invited to compete for scholarships (provided as prizes). Each year the YELL North team hosts the annual iCubed Summit - an annual event to kickstart and expose Northern BC youth to innovative businesses and to help to grow their entrepreneurial growth mindset.
