HASANZ and COHN(C) registered.Heidi has practiced as an Occupational Health and Safety specialist since 1993. Her experience ranges from direct patient care to full program development, delivery and evaluation, all with the aim of preventing workplace injury and illness. She has worked with small, medium, and large industrial, educational, and healthcare organizations in the private, public and government sectors. Heidi is a creator of the Orange Umbrella® tools which help employers to proactively manage the important link between workplace culture and health and safety outcomes. Her Masters research confirmed the statistical validity and reliability of Orange Umbrella®’s GSP® Survey tool and showed how better workplace culture GSP® scores were associated with lower injuries to both staff and patients, and lower violence incidents in healthcare. Heidi currently provides restorative team mediation and coaches and mentors employers to proactively evaluate and improve their system risks using the Orange Umbrella® tools. She supports a system approach to ensure that elements support safe and healthy work, and in 2010 teamed up with the Electricity Engineers’ Association to found the Safety Climate Project for the electricity supply industry which ran until 2018. Heidi is interested in research, policy development and evaluation in health and safety. She sees that communities, workplaces and the environment are interrelated parts within the same system. Her range of health and safety interests is therefore broad and includes the environment, workplace, education and sport.
