Advising/ Presentations:Advise students (undergraduate to Ph.D.) in a fast-paced environment with career development topics including career exploration, seeking experience, job search, or applying to graduate school. Serve as point of contact for College of Engineering (home to approximately 11,000 students) students, faculty, and staff providing population specific information in advising appointments. Increased number of students returning for follow-up appointments by shifting to a coaching model. Provide federal career advising, expanding knowledge of federal job search and equipping students to obtain federal opportunities.Presentations:Present 30-50 workshops/year to groups ranging from 5 to 200+ students on fundamental career related skills, expanding exposure to career related information across campus. Adapt presentation style to increase interaction and application of material, ensuring engagement for both in person and virtual presentation formats. Utilize a variety of technology tools to create interactive presentations that allow all students to have a voice during the workshop.Collaboration:Collaborate on projects connected to office’s strategic plan including updating resources for Hokie families and expanding the Career Champions program. Serve as College of Engineering liaison developing relationships with academic partners embedding career in classes and building rapport for advising and presentation referrals. Provide professional development opportunities for COE colleagues to enhance career conversations with students and stay updated on current career trends.Collaborated with Office of Veterans Services to represent Virginia Tech in presentation and meetings with federal agency representatives focused on military to civilian transition at the Mark Center and Pentagon. Developed, planned, and implemented networking reception for student veterans funded by alum’s donation, partnering with academics, student affairs, and advancement.

Advising:Advised students and alumni ranging from undergraduate to Ph.D. during one-on-one appointments and walk-in advising regarding graduate or professional school plans, job search, interviewing, as well as resumes and cover letters. Conducted mock interviews for undergraduate to Ph.D. students in diverse areas of study, providing feedback regarding interview skills. Served as a liaison to veterans resources and a liaison assistant to the College of Engineering. Assisted with satellite advising hours for engineering students. Utilized values, skills, interest, personality, and strengths assessments including MyPlan, StrengthsQuest, and Woofound with exploratory students. Partnerships and Outreach:Collaborated with Veterans in the College of Engineering (ViCE) student organization to host speed resume critique for seven veteran. Partnered with Kaplan and The Princeton Review to provide ten graduate school preparation workshops each semester. Coordinated federal job search programming including three Partnership for Public Service webinar viewings each semester. Presented on a variety of topics to classes and student organizations, ranging from small groups to groups of over one hundred.

Critiqued resumes, cover letters, and application materials for a diverse student and alumni population. Conducted mock interviews and provided feedback regarding interview skills. Shadowed majors panel for open option students and planning meetings for Professional Dress Fashion Show. Observed declared and open option appointments including MBTI, lift-off, and career development. Researched potential employers for targeted areas of study to expand employer relationships. Trained new peer mentors regarding resume critiques and walk-in appointments. Assisted with Career Expo, Etiquette Dinner, and Business, Industry, and Government Interview Day.

Oversaw building with a maximum capacity of 300 residents. Supervised staff of one Assistant Residence Hall Director and ten Community Advisors. Advised Hall Council, including an executive board of seven. Managed Hall Council budget of $10,000. Initiated and facilitated planning of all complex program planned collaboratively by three building staff groups.

Co-supervised staff of 20 undergraduate summer Resident Advisors (RA). Researched sophomore year experience programs. Designed hospitalities book for conference guests. Research and revised housing's smoking policy and RA manual. Designed assessment for camps and conferences guests and 5 Days ABLAZE programs. Planned and facilitated task force meetings with RA representatives from each building staff.

Supervised a staff of 4 undergraduate student staff members. Advised Residence Hall Association (RHA) student leadership organization. Managed a Residence Hall with approximately 100 residents first year and upperclass residents. Planned and coordinated student staff hiring and student staff training. Developed and implemented leadership and skill building training exercises, including leadership retreat for RHA executive board and members.
