I train new servers and continue to guide them during their time of employment. Server trainers are responsible to assist managers in the daily functions of customer service, employee training and coaching, and aid in expediting the processes of food service while still attending to their own guests.

This experience was short because of delays due to COVID-19. This externship involved interviewing potential clients for the First Appearance Program that the county has. I had to fill out the required court forms to get the court's approval for the client to receive an appointed attorney. I handled arraignments in-person and via Zoom technology. I also worked out of two different courts with this office, 54-A District Court in Lansing and 55th District Court in Mason. While I was at the 55th District Court I also handled the pre-trial docket with my supervising attorney.

During my time with this office I learned more than I ever did in my 3 years of law school. I learned how to handle an APA docket including pre-trials, bench trials and a jury trial, and preliminary examination hearings. This office has 4 district court judges and I was able to work with each one of them and learn different techniques and processes from courtroom to courtroom. COVID-19 cut my in-person experience short by a few weeks but I then conducted a research assignment on the Michigan Sentencing Offense Variables to create a quick reference guide for the APAs in the office.

I performed all regular duties of probation officers including; writing Presentence Investigation Recommendations, meeting with clients in the jail for violation pleas, and meeting with clients on their report days to verify their compliance and success each month. I also worked with the Sobriety Court participants by monitoring their reports and appearing in court on their judicial review days.
