Taking part in a pilot public sector - private sector employee exchange scheme.Actively contributing to the development of strategies and policies of the Department and the EU Division in particular.Particular responsibility in:- Tracking developments in the institutional 'changeover' during the summer 2014.- Ensuring effective engagement with the European Union institutions and with the European Parliament in particular.- Supporting the Government's strategy to ensure that Ireland is adequately represented in the staffing of EU and international organisations.- Ensuring that Ireland's national position on key institutional issues is communicated and understood.

- Responsible for preparing, planning and overseeing Ibec's activities in advance of and during the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.- Established and maintained constructive working relationships with key Presidency staff in Government Departments, Embassies and European institutions.- Took the lead in organising Ibec Presidency events including discussion with President Van Rompuy in January 2013, the EU-US Business Roundtable in April 2013 and BUSINESSEUROPE's Council of Presidents in June 2013.- Provided support to sector colleagues to increase their engagement and involvement with Presidency activities.- Chairperson of BUSINESSEUROPE's CSR Committee.- Board Member of Business in the Community Ireland.

The main IBEC interface with the main European institutions in Brussels.- Acted as the 'Permanent Delegate' to BUSINESSEUROPE - the primary contact point with other European business federations. - Responsible for running IBEC's Brussels Office and managing both the IBEC Europe team and resource allocation, in partnership with IBEC Finance and HR.- Maintained and built-upon constructive working relationships with key stakeholders, including relevant Ministers, MEPs, institution officials and other business organisations and associations.- Provided advice and guidance to colleagues in Ireland and members on the technicalities of European Union developments and practical possible courses of action.- Ensured that relevant governing bodies in IBEC were aware of significant developments in European Affairs and provided input into internal decision-making on positions to take.- With colleagues, designed focused advocacy campaigns and implemented the European elements of those campaigns.- Acted as the contact point for Brussels-based journalists and media.- Proactively managed the quality of European Affairs content of IBEC publications and web pages.- Provided the secretariat and organisation for IBEC's EU Affairs Committee.- Chairperson of BUSINESSEUROPE's Equal Opportunity Network and subsequently the CSR Working Group (Corporate Social Responsibility).

- Responsible for providing strategic guidance on a number of ares of policy, including social policy, immigration and integration policy- Tracked European level employment and social proposals and communicated those developments to members- Provided secretariat to IBEC's Human Resources and Social Policy Committee- Developed a number of training programmes

- Executive responsible tracking legislation and policy initiatives, mostly in the employment/social policy areas at both national and European level; in particular issues related to the development of national legal measures on information and consultation, legislation on part-time work, fixed-term work, working time, telework, Carer's leave and in the field of childcare.- Developed IBEC positions within areas of responsibility and wrote submissions to Departments and Government on behalf of Irish businesses.- Developed and implemented advocacy strategies within those areas of responsibility.- Responsible for support IBEC's Human Resources and Social Policy Committee (HRSPC).- Responsible for helping members to prepare for the impact of new legislation by working on company policies, developing and running training programmes and writing basic guidelines.- Board member of an EQUAL funded Integration project (Interact) and involved in the development of a number of supports under that programme.- Responsible for writing updates, articles and papers for IBEC publications and governing bodies.- Represented IBEC on a number of external committees including the National Monitoring Committee for EQUAL and URBAN, the NESF, RAPID national monitoring committee and the National Anti-Poverty Strategy Committees.

- Responsible for tracking legislation and policy developments across a number of fields, in particular social policy, employment law, labour market affairs, lifelong learning and training policy.- Responsible for putting together first draft of responses to Government requests for input on policy developments.

One of nine Irish members of the European Economic and Social Committee; a Treaty-based consultative body of the European Union made up of representatives of employers, employees and 'various interests' from the 28 Member States. I took part in the work of three sections: SOC (Employment, Social Affairs and Citizenship), ECO (Economic and Monetary Union and Economic and Social Cohesion) and INT (Single Market, Production and Consumption). I was 'rapporteur' (responsible for writing the draft Opinions of the Committee) on two occasions on the opinions on 'Administrative Co-operation in the field of excise duties' and 'Participatory processes in the implementation of Europe 2020'. Took part in a number of EESC working groups including those that looked at European Commission proposals on 'The fight against tax fraud and tax evasion', 'European Company Law and Corporate Governance' and the 'General Data Protection Regulation'.

- Assisted in the representation of Irish businesses at European level, preparing articles for publication.- Organised programmes for sector organisations to meet European officials and elected representatives.- Responsible for following the work of a number of Committees in the European Parliament.

Worked with colleagues on sections of larger research projects, the most significant of which dealt with employment in the textiles, clothing and footwear sectors over a period of 25 years.

- Worked in the unit dealing with Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Slovenia - following the legislative approximation 'screening process' in the fields of agriculture and energy, as part of the accession process.- Wrote reports and undertook initial analysis of PHARE project proposals.
