Redefined the plant wide Process Safety Mechanical Integrity Program, which involved determining the pieces of equipment which will be included in the program and evaluating the frequency and type of preventive maintenance to be performed. Participated in a workgroup that assisted the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in rewriting the TCPA regulations to incorporate the elements of the EPA RMP regulation. As a member of the technical committee for the Gloucester-Salem County RMP Industry Group, involved in coordinating worst case release scenarios, and sharing alternative release scenario information with other industry members in order to prepare for communicating this information with the community.
Environmental Consultant
Worked on numerous projects associated with the RCRA Enforcement and Permitting Assistance (REPA) contract for EPA Region III. Responsibilities included data validation of both inorganic and radioactive sample results; conducted Quality Assurance surveillance of operating procedures at Hanford; and assisted in the development of a permit modification request to incorporate the Corrective Action Management Unit (CAMU) Rule as it relates to Hanford.
Intern/Process Engineer
As a Shift Supervisor, responsible for process optimization and control at the Rustenburg Precious Metal Refinery of the Plant overflow Dam Recovery Project. Performed settler overflow filtration tests in order to improve filtration efficiency. Other projects included testing zinc catalysis in primary leaching; settling tests on Lime Plant overflow, Dam sludge sampling; and laboratory analysis. During six month CO-OP - Implemented process improvements for selenium removal; copper solids containment; and copper and nickel electrolysis for the Rustenburg Base Metals Refinery Technical Development Department. Developed the design and implementation parameters for a selenium reduction column, effectively reducing the amount of solids forming within the operating system. Performed laboratory and computer analysis to compare several refinery processes. Specifically, researched and assisted in the design of a selenium removal process.
