About Heidi Siegelbaum

I energize and connect the science and technical enterprise with its health and economic development context. My focus is to promote sustainable communities by linking natural resource protection and resilience with economic development, public health and jobs. I help private sector organizations understand and partner effectively with community organizations, public agencies and scientists. Trained in managed health care and industrial chemical law, I break the mold by sharing innovative interdisciplinary approaches and tools that lend depth to problem solving and bring more diverse perspectives to the table. Who sits at your dinner table is dispositive- it's a game changer.I delight in using a whole decision making process that is creative and draws on the best ideas from all walks of life and all subject areas. No idea is ever completely off the table.Combined with excellent research and writing skills and robust sense of humor, I enliven processes and ask important questions that can provide break-through strategies. I am also a seasoned science communicator, able to take the most obscure lexicon and make it understandable. This is crucial for science and research support, building partnerships, and improving how science and technical information informs policy. Skills include:Science Communication and InterpretationApplied social science to connect technical and other skilled audiencesInterdisciplinary Research and WritingPartnership and Community of Practice DevelopmentIntegrated Natural Resource, Health and Economic Development ImplementationI can be seen cooking up a storm, rejecting my training in classic French cooking by making highly spiced food, taking photographs in the woods with a 1977 Pentax Spotmatic or regaling stories of strangers, whom I always find something of value and delight in. Stormwater Program Analyst And Sustainable Communities

Current
Washington State University, Washington Stormwater Center

I am working with a great group of collaborators, including Saud Alrakhayes from the World Bank's Mind, Behavior and Development Unit at the World Bank (from iSMA), Mary McGuire from Michigan Fitness and, Daniel Rotman, behavior change and waste management consultant from B.C., to promote social marketing directed to elected officials and policymakers. The Orbit Committee is part brain-child of Nancy Lee, the peripitetic leader of Social Marketing Services and long-standing leader in the behavior change for good industry. We look forward to building persuasive communications to encourage elected officials and policy makers to use social marketing as a smart, good ROI investment and leave behind the outdated "information as change" paradigm.
