I started this education to become a pilot within the Port of Rotterdam. Unfortunately due to a severe accident and its aftermath I was unable to finish this successfully.

As second officer I was responsible for the following disciplines: Navigational planning, stability, cargo loading and discharging, stability, audits, fire safety and lifesaving. During my hours of watchkeeping as senior watchkeeper, I had frequently the possibility to manoeuvre the vessel during arrival and departures. Besides these tasks I was the ship specific ECDIS trainer, my task was to make sure that all officers were in compliance. Besides these tasks I stepped in occasionally as chief officer.

During my hours of watchkeeping as senior watchkeeper, I had frequently the possibility to manoeuvre the vessel during arrival and departures. Besides these tasks I was the mentor of two cadet‑officers as well as trainer for lower ranked officers.

As third officer I have been responsible for multiple disciplines such as: Emergency functions onboard, safety equipment, lifesaving equipment, accompany audits, maintenance of navigational equipment and navigational planning. When in charge of navigational planning I was responsible for getting all routes in line with the latest Carnival ECDIS standards. Besides these functions I was also senior watchkeeper for 8 hours a day.

As fourth officer I was responsible for the emergency functions onboard the vessel. Besides I assisted the safety officer with planning and executing maintenance work. This maintenance work contained a wide range of work, from working on the electrics of the fire detection system till the hydraulics of the lifeboat davits. During the night shifts I was for four hours the assistant of the watch. During the daytime I had two hours of solo watch keeping as senior watchkeeper.
