About Cindy Heiner

My cybersecurity career began in 2003 when a colleague asked me to reconsider taking an early retirement package from Verizon. I was nowhere near retirement age, of course. But the opportunity was there to “retire” and I was seriously considering moving to smalltown Oklahoma and opening a coffee shop and bookstore. I’d been in information technology for about two years and found I didn’t love it. That conversation is crystal clear twenty years later. He asked if I’d consider joining him on his newly formed application security team. I asked him if I could work from home (I was a single mom and has a new puppy to boot) and be promised I wouldn’t get laid off the next year. Obviously, he couldn’t promise I wouldn’t be laid-off, but we came to an agreement on working from home. Thus began the career I’ve loved.I’ve often said that cybersecurity saved my career. What I know now is that my experience is more than the sum of my years of work experience. The real work and growth happened outside technology. In 2010 I attended a Dallas ISACA chapter meeting where Jeff Snyder was speaking about the freedom and strategic advantage of working within your CliftonStrengths. Jeff was on fire. For the first time ever, I stayed after an event to chat with the speaker. The impact that one encounter had on me is immeasurable. After 11 years of friendship, mentoring, and coaching and while Jeff was quite literally dying of ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease he finally let me in on what he’d known all along. I had more to give than what I was currently giving. I was, he said, the next Jeff. He wanted me to take on Strengths coaching too. Finally, here I am, a certified Gallup CliftonStrengths coaching with a decade of experience on the topic and more years than that of input and sweat equity from Jeff Snyder. I have a unique view on Strengths coaching because of my work but also a passion for helping people develop into the team members and leaders they can be by tapping into their giftedness. It isn’t always an easy journey, but it is totally worth it. Join me!
