Heini Järvinen Email and Phone Number
I am a nanophysicist passionate about experimental research and the fabrication industry working in a cleanroom environment. Starting phD studies at JYU next Autumn.Previously, I was working as a lab engineer in the Mixed Reality team at Microsoft (Espoo) to fabricate optical components for the Hololens 2 AR-headset. I am naturally curious and always interested in learning new things and finding new ways to utilize my former experience. I am widely interested in the natural sciences and technology including programming. The aim is to improve and discover new mentors in the field of nanoscience, optics, lithography and related fields to evolve in scientific thinking, R&D. I am also interested in acquiring new skills in business. My main motivation is to discover, learn and use what I know to positively better the world.During my master's studies, I was working at the Nanoscience Center (NSC) in the plasmonics and molecular electronics group led by Professor Jussi Toppari with a project to optimize DNA-origami lattices on silicon surfaces and the aim to produce optical metamaterials. The work environment at the NSC is highly multidisciplinary as well as international, which endorsed my communicative skills both in English and Finnish. Teamwork was in the heart of the project as were skills to present findings in private and extended meetings, public events (Researcher's night) and scientific seminars (Nanoscience Day's).During my time with the project I was able to pick up skills in general laboratory practices, the use of specific nanoscience equipment like the AFM, RIE, CVD, cleanroom and others. I was also able to level up my skills by observing highly skilled researchers doing what they do best: scientific thinking, presenting information, teamwork, writing articles, general efficiency and networking. After joining the group I got the pleasure of training two other individuals for the job and gained vital experience also in team management. The research led to 2 published articles. In addition, I wrote a comprehensive master's thesis in English about the detailed findings of the project. Research AssistantUniversity Of Jyväskylä Aug 2020 - Jun 2022Jyväskylä, Central Finland, FinlandWorked as a research assistant at the Nanoscience Center at the University of Jyväskylä in the plasmonics and molecular electronics group lead by Associate Professor Jussi Toppari part-time with my master's studies. Our project included hands-on work with DNA-origami to fabricate 2D fishnet lattices on silicon for the creation of optical metamaterials. This was also the topic of my master's thesis. In addition to regular lab procedures the work included cleanroom training as well as getting familiar with using the atomic force microscope (AFM). As the group renewed I also got to train new employees as well as help other coworkers with AFM imaging. During the two years I got to keep multiple presentations and talks about the recent findings of the project to colleagues as well as to the general public and other researchers. Two research articles were published based on the work along with my master's thesis.
