I work in the Delivery group at York Bioanalytical Solutions as a Responsible Scientist. I worked in the Metabolism Analytical and MetID group at LabCorp. As part of my role, I trained others on the use of a variety of mass spectrometers, and helped with data interpretation and report writing. My key skills involved data interpretation and report writing, client communication and time management. I completed my PhD at the University of York under the supervision of Prof. Jane Thomas-Oates and Dr. Anne Routledge. This project explored new ways to analyse protein digests through the labelling and capture of peptides on a self-assembled monolayer for in situ analysis by MALDI-MS. My PhD was supported through a departmental technicianship to support the running of the departmental Mass Spectrometry service for one day per week. This involved the sample preparation, data acquisition and analysis of samples submitted to the service as well as providing advice on techniques and what information can be obtained for a specific sample. Instrument maintenance also formed part of the role, including cleaning and routine servicing, troubleshooting and reactive maintenance as required. The service in the department consists of the following instruments: a Bruker micrOTOF (coupled to an Agilent 1260 HPLC) and a Waters GCT Premier (coupled to an Agilent GC).In addition to my research, I have also taught and supervised groups of undergraduate students within the teaching laboratories across all areas of chemistry, including synthetic, analytical and physical disciplines.As part of the final year of my undergraduate degree, I spent 15 months working at Reckitt Benckiser as an analytical assistant working on stability studies and on new dissolution methods for drugs produced by the company.
