For the first time, the Post Office had a strategic financial model for this business area which was fully signed up to by all stakeholders, more easily used, and embedded into regular planning processes.

ZSL is an international £70m charity which delivers conservation projects in more than 50 countries worldwide, carries out ground-breaking scientific research and operates ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.Soon after joining as the FP&A manager, I was promoted to be head of the Finance Business Partnering team to help drive significant transformation (people, processes and systems) of the Finance department at ZSL. Key achievements included:1. Financial modelling (integrated monthly P&L, Cashflow, Balance Sheet) to create a 5 year financial scenario for ZSL. This included monthly forecasting of free cash and general reserves. My model was used to agree affordable capital expenditure limits for the next few years, secure a multi-£m credit facility, and inform the annual budgeting process.2. Managed the planning and budgeting process, working with the Directors and managers at all levels, ensuring that a balanced budget was understood and agreed, during a time of increasing financial pressure in the organisation.3. Recruited and led a brand new team of three Finance Business Partners and one Finance Analyst, which resulted in much closer working between the Finance team and budget holders, better information quality and better understanding of performance.4. Delivered significant change to people, processes and systems, including personally producing the management accounts for the whole of ZSL while I was recruiting my new team, and ensuring finance processes were improved to achieve benefits from our new purchasing and ticketing/CRM systems.
