I have been working in the Arboricultural Industry for 27 years, beginning like many as a tree surgeon performing a broad range of practical tasks for the management of trees both private and public ; through contract work of varying scales. Following this I spent several years working as a Local Government Tree Officer for two authorities, Eastleigh Borough and Staffordshire County, being responsible for the care and safe management of trees within public ownership and providing a range of technical advice to the public and other Council departments. Returning to tools for a couple of years I gained employment with FPCR Environment and Design Limited, where I am currently working. FPCR are a a long established, award winning multi-disciplinary private practice specialising in masterplanning, urban design, landscape architecture, ecology and arboriculture. I lead a team of eight of arboriculturalists in the provision of consultancy in the field of planning and development using BS 5837 (2012), for all matters associated with trees and design from inception of sites / identification of constraints through to construction. Our strong, busy team undertake advisory and support work on a wide range of services including planning applications, PI's and planning appeals, TPO objections, tree / woodland management plans, home buyers reports, tree related subsidence, tree planting, hazard and safety inspection, tree surgery specifications, Arboricultural Impact Assessment, Arboricultural Method Statements and a range of tree protection systems.The team specialise in the integration of trees into the urban environment either new development or re-development of brown field sites where the appropriate selection of trees for retention can increase amenity value.Professional Member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters and Assessor and Examination Board member for Professional Membership Entry (ICF). Professional member of the Arboricultural Association.
