I am the Founder, Chief Medical Officer and Chairperson of Empathetics, Inc., and the author of "The Empathy Effect." Empathetics was founded to make empathy training highly accessible in a virtual capacity through online learning and other products and service solutions. I developed empathy training courses based on the neuroscience of emotions. My research team at Massachusetts General Hospital tested the training in pilot studies and a randomized controlled trial that demonstrated significant improvement in patient ratings of clinician empathy. This has a direct impact on employee engagement and retention and the patient and provider experience by engaging enhanced perception of emotions and curiosity about the experience of colleagues, patients and their families. This training approach also has been shown to significantly improve patient satisfactions scores in a randomized, controlled clinical trial at Massachusetts General Hospital.
