With over five years of experience working in ecological consultancies as a fisheries scientist and GIS analyst, Helen has established herself as a freelance consultant providing specialist environmental consultancy services. Helen is competent in the market-leading GIS software, including ESRI ArcGIS and QGIS. Her GIS and data analysis capabilities have frequently been used to provide support to EIAs, EcIAs, planning and licensing applications, enhancement and mitigation strategies and ecological surveys. Helen has used her GIS skills to address unique and often problematic scenarios across rivers, lakes, estuaries and marine habitats, using a wide range of data sources including bathymetric and LiDAR data, habitat type, flow and species availability. She has recently broadened her expertise into terrestrial ecology, mapping habitats and protected species including bats, great crested newts and badgers, to support a range of projects. Helen is an experienced project manager, having successfully delivered large and complex projects including flume and field-based research trials, EcIAs and baseline ecological surveys for large infrastructure projects. She is competent in managing large budgets, managing and fostering client relationships, as well as managing small teams. She has organized and led many fisheries surveys, and is competent in using a range of survey techniques including electric fishing, seine netting and fyke netting across freshwater, estuarine and marine habitats.
