About Helen Whitkin

As a passionate community builder, I am committed to a collaborative approach in tackling sustainability problems. Recent roles in the US and Australia have focussed particularly on program development and implementation in the waste reduction space, covering campaigns in food waste reduction for back-of-house operations, carpet recycling, reduction of disposables in café environments, and better overall recycling by businesses, as well as reducing contamination in kerbside recycling bins.Prior to working in sustainability, I was a passionate amateur. I was the founding Board Chair for Be Living Smart, Inc, which trains facilitators to deliver the Living Smart community courses in Western Australia and around Australia. I am also a trained facilitator and have delivered numerous modules in the Living Smart course in Perth and San Francisco. In addition I was a founding Board/Committee member of Hilton Harvest Community Garden in Perth.In my life before sustainability, I spent 10 years working as an Australian Trade Commissioner/Business Development Manager for Austrade in San Francisco, New Caledonia and Germany, and a further 7 years in Marketing roles in the performing arts sector in London, Sydney and Perth.Specialties: Outreach, community development, strategic marketing
