I completed my master's degree in Computer Science from Columbia University, Machine Learning track in December 2023 and formally graduated in May 2024. I wanted to try something different from programming after my studies but still stay within the tech industry so in January I started as a Project Manager at Arion Banki's IT department. The IT department has over 140 employees spread across multiple teams with different emphases but all with the goal of making the digital experience of our customers better. I have been fortunate to work on a diverse set of projects, including projects focused on utilizing new AI technologies, implementing new features, and fixing legacy technology. I have also set up new and improved processes, organized workshops, and managed a big procurement project. Although I do miss programming from time to time, I very much enjoy the communication and human connection this role provides.Outside of work, I manage ADA konur, a social media platform dedicated to showcasing women and non-binary people within the Icelandic tech industry. I really enjoy working on this project, and I hope my work will increase the number of women and non-binary people in tech.
