Now in the final phase of my university experience as a mature student, It has been an amazing journey so far. A favourite motto, "Every day's a school day" has never been more relevant than during these past few years.

Apart from the obvious academic aspect of my learning, I've been incredibly lucky to have been given a number of opportunities including tutoring with the University for the past three years which I've thoroughly enjoyed.
I've enjoyed a 13 month internship with Oracle on their Release Engineering team as part of my course internship program and held a senior position on the committee of the MMS society.
Other skills were developed by giving presentations in college to other students and lecturers, and while with Oracle to colleagues in attendance both physically and remotely.
Team projects were successfully undertaken, personal projects delivered and numerous friends have been made across many age groups.

Now in these final months, my concentrations are focused on the final year project and modules that make up the fourth and final year of my course.

Maynooth

My role includes tutoring students to learn Java Object Oriented programming in an intensive 3-week course annually. I'm also helping at weekly labs as a demonstrator. I'm loving the experience and thrilled I am doing it. I've learned so much as a demonstrator & tutor, from reading the code of others to adjusting my mindset to assist them in adapting their code following their approach.

Some aspects of my role:
A selection of products were assigned to me for which I was responsible for the monitoring of the smooth translation process cycle and quick turnaround of kits.
Tasks included -
Kicking off of products for translation using Unix command line via windows environment.
Monitoring and logging source file bugs where they arose upstream in the pipeline.
Trouble shooting issues as they arose in the product translation pipeline.
Pre-empting such problems where possible in advance.
Improving documentation for various teams with a view to improving the success rate in the translation work cycle.
Writing PLSQL scripts to pull reports from database, and amending existing files to bring up to date.
Worked with a team to create an application for management and delivery of internal communications. Tools used: Oracle Application Express for the GUI, SQL, PL SQL with Oracle Database.
Participation and chairing of meetings and presentations.

As president of the society I work with a team of fantastic committee members on a voluntary basis to bring support, events and activities to other mature students at Maynooth University.

Athy Co Kildate

Each year I work as the lead registration marshal at Tri-Athy, one of Ireland's biggest triathlons. As lead registration marshal I am responsible for the management of a staff of brilliant volunteers usually numbering around 15 and of varying ages, so that we can process approximately 2,000 athletes as they register for their race all the while aiming to ensure they have a wonderful experience. My role includes registration planning, referencing previous years reports, and set-up in advance of the event. It includes giving the volunteer briefing, instructing them on procedures and policies and managing the distribution of tasks and ensuring the time-critical schedule is adhered to. It also includes communicating with the crowds of competitors waiting to register, so that they are prepared and can proceed through the registration process as efficiently as possible. As lead marshal I handle disputes and where possible find resolutions. I aim to forecast problems and to manage them as they arise so as to facilitate the smooth running of the event. I listen to my team members, working with them to improve the experience for everyone. I liaise with the race directors, other marshals, the race timing-chip company and the health and safety officer, communicating information, updates and changes where necessary. When the event is over I compile a report detailing the successes, failures and possible improvements that could be implemented for future events. This annual weekend event never fails to impress me in its magnitude and in the drive of the athletes, volunteers and directors involved. It's always a high pressure, fast paced, ever-evolving and exciting experience with a wonderful atmosphere that keeps me coming back each year for more.

Ballyfin, Co Laois

Here I took a class and gave assistance to children aged about 7 to 14 who were taking the course. I taught 'scratch' programming. I found it to be very rewarding to watch the enthusiasm and willingness of such young minds.

Portlaoise

The position included dealing with accounts on both sides of the ledger, payroll, PAYE, PRSI, Vat returns, Banking and Bank Reconciliations, Export/Import paperwork & handling, Loan Applications and Processing, Currency buying and booking. Payments and Credit control.
Extensive use of Microsoft Office and the in-house accountancy package. No two days were ever the same. Responsibilities included liaising with the chief accountant, the sales manager, and the sales team.
