• Counsel clients on strategies for building and maintaining intellectual property portfolios• Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications, including those in complex and interrelated families; manage foreign patent counsel• Provide post-issuance strategic advice concerning patent term extension (PTE); draft documents related to PTE and patent term adjustment; manage foreign counsel regarding supplementary protection certificates• Evaluate manuscripts, slide presentations, and invention disclosure forms for potentially patentable subject matter• Draft briefs and other papers for inter partes matters, including inter partes reviews under the America Invents Act, interferences, inter partes reexaminations, district court litigation, and appeal• Perform due diligence analyses and counsel clients on design around strategies • Prepare opinions on patentability, validity, and infringement• Negotiate, interpret, and draft confidentiality and other intellectual property-related clauses and agreements, including technology transfer agreements (e.g., Cooperative Research and Development Agreements between the government and university startups), and other cooperation agreements• Research and analyze complex legal, scientific, and regulatory issues • Train, supervise, and mentor associates, summer associates, patent agents, technical specialists, and paralegals• Served on the firm's Charitable Committee for about 8 years (the only non-partner on the committee in firm history)• Visiting in-house attorney, Human Genome Sciences, Inc., Intellectual Property Department, April – October 2007
