I am committed to the advancement of a healthcare paradigm that respects and utilizes the client's self-care knowledge as the primary source of information and incorporates communication skills that facilitate development of trusting, functional relationships between provider and client. To that end, I have developed, tested, taught, practiced, disseminated, and advocated for a holistic paradigm, designed to guide person-centered caring. I have articulated holistic practice and paradigm specifics with the publication and dissemination of Modeling and Role-Modeling (MRM) a way of thinking about and applying knowledge and skills in practice. MRM is based on an integration of Milton Erickson's work, behavioral and basic science, research findings, my own clinical practice both as a faculty member and independently. The Society for the Advancement of MRM, formed in 1986, offers biennial conferences with retreats in alternate years. I have also: held faculty and administrative positions in three major university; presented at many national/international meetings/conferences; provided leadership in curriculum development and program evaluation; consulted with a variety of organizations and groups of healthcare providers, and served as a volunteer with multiple agencies. Volunteer activities since 1997 have focused primarily on the development and expansion of the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC), the only credentialing organization for holistic nurses. Currently AHNCC, accredited by ABSNC, offers two examinations for basic holistic nurses, two for graduate prepared holistic nurses, and one for nurse coaches.
