Review Certificate of Appropriateness Applications submitted by property owners in the local historic district.Develop Design Guidelines to ensure new construction as well as proposed alterations and additions made to historic properties are appropriate for the building/structure as well as for the surrounding historic neighborhoods. Assist the City of Newport in addressing the integration of resiliency and green energy strategies in a manner that is sensitive to the distinct historic character found throughout the city's local historic district.

•Provide Federal real estate support to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and Wallops Flight Facility including records maintenance and management to ensure correct recordation of construction and modification expenses as well as asset value depreciation.•Sort paper files by year and asset. Review and digitally record values of construction and modifications to buildings and other structures at Goddard Space Flight Center and Wallops Flight Facility. Re-file paper assets in new sorting format.•Ensure value of asset is supported by appropriate contracts and invoices and that value and capitalization is calculated correctly. •Assist Goddard Space Flight Center’s cultural resource officer in the organization and cataloging of cultural significant artifacts from NASA sites.

• Managed communication with visitors and other outside parties, maintained client contact list, prepared purchase orders, fielded sales inquiries, coordinated events and exhibit installation logistics, assisted with physical installation of art work.• Researched artists, subject matter, and art styles exhibited in gallery and wrote bibliographical and educational summaries to be posted throughout the gallery• Compiled, organized, and maintained artist information archives and photo documentation of artists’ work, exhibitions, and gallery media coverage.

• Communicated between board members, architects, contractors, and other consultants. • Collaborated closely with NPAC board members to ensure that the scope and direction of the restoration of the Newport Opera House was feasible and on schedule.• Planned, executed, and evaluated developmental tasks that support the mission of the board and the restoration of the Opera House. This included but was not limited to historic resource reports, building conditions assessments, grant writing, social media and marketing strategies, archival research, and overseeing the work of and coordinating with architects, contractors, and development consultants.

• Collaborated with the National Park Service and other contractors to survey historic sites and buildings and prepare a database listing the age of architectural and site features, condition of the features, and steps to take if feature must be replaced or repaired.• Surveyed historic buildings and translated measured drawings and condition assessments into AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator drawings. Edited drawings for project architects.• Conducted archival research on buildings and sites being surveyed for adaptive re-use. Edited pre-existing text addressing the history of buildings and sites being surveyed for future use projects. •Responsible for choosing appropriate interior and exterior finishes, fixtures, and signage based on consultations with building owners and developers, zoning regulations, and site plans.

• Developed web portal content for Rhode Island and New England home owners concerning the topic of weatherization for aging and historic residential structures to be published on the Common Sense Preservation Portal.• Collaborated with the Newport Restoration Foundation, the Providence Revolving Fund, and Historic New England to create the Collaborative for Common Sense Preservation and move their mission forward through the development of a web portal.• Compiled and disseminated information concerning alternative energy solutions appropriate for residences in historic districts.

• Researched HUD policies and determined how congregations could use federal assistance to make their vacant structures viable sources of income. • Interviewed leaders of religious organizations who recently completed the New Dollars/New Partners training program. Authored three articles for quarterly magazine (Fall 2009) and congregation success stories. • Contributed to organization’s archives by photographing numerous historic religious institutions.

• Researched and documented flooring techniques in 18th century Potomac River Basin country homes including Mount Vernon.• Produced a preliminary report concerning this topic, with a focus on the distinct floorboard configuration in George Washington’s study. • Diagnosed condition of historic flooring and baseboards in the main house and assisted with conservation of said features.

• Researched and compiled information about historic buildings maintained by GSA to create brochures for the Center for Historic Building’s annual poster and brochure series. • Recognized and addressed maintenance issues in historic government buildings by compiling a list of proactive steps needed to preserve the integrity of the buildings. • Acquired extensive knowledge of the government’s role as preservation advocate and the efforts made to encourage preservation across the country through projects such as documentation of U.S. historic border stations.

• Surveyed and documented houses in Newport’s West of Broadway historic district.• Photographed historically significant houses and structures.• Conducted archival research and prepared property database.

• Collaborated with historic preservation students at the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard house to survey the house and yard, excavate test pits, sift soil to find artifacts.•Organized, cleaned, and cataloged artifacts from the collection.

• Researched and identified preservation organizations in Texas for Center for Preservation Initiatives report on statewide preservation efforts. • Interviewed preservation activists on Capitol Hill and attended preservation relevant hearings. • Assisted the other intern in preparing for annual auction fundraiser. • Attended informational meetings at the National Trust for Historic Preservation specifically for interns and participated in site visits. The meetings and site visits educated the interns about the many facets of preservation in the Washington, DC area; from the reconstruction of the Pentagon to the forgotten Arts and Industries Building on the Mall. • Volunteered on night of Preservation Action fund raising auction in 2007.
