I am a Materials Science and Engineering undergraduate at Virginia Tech, currently in my final semester.I have previous experience in steel research that I gained during my Co-Op at SSAB Americas. During this time I managed 3 projects while reporting to senior engineers. I learned how to perform mechanical tests such as tensile testing, charpy impact testing, and Vickers microhardness. I also became adapt at metallographic sample preparation, optical microscopy, and SEM operation. I gained skills in technical writing, presenting, and communication.I have also gained experience in films research during my internship at Eastman Chemical Company. During this time, I worked in the Performance Films Research Group, and worked on several projects. I worked in a lab and utilized a magnetron sputter coater to coat polymer films with metal oxides for research purposes.During my final year at Virginia Tech, I have been working in a team on our senior capstone project in collaboration with MELD Manufacturing. We are investigating the effectiveness of Additive Friction Stir Deposition (AFSD) as a method for recycling high iron aluminum.

Technology InternEastman May 2023 - Aug 2023Kingsport, Tennessee, United StatesI spent the summer learning about sputter coating. I learnt how to operate a magnetron sputter coater, how different film substrates effect the quality of the final sputtered stack, the importance of corona treating substrates, and how research and development work interfaces with a corporate environment. -
R&D Co-OpSsab Jun 2021 - Dec 2021Montpelier, Iowa, United StatesI worked as an R&D Co-Op at SSAB Iowa from June 1st, 2021 through December 17th, 2021. There I developed soft skills such as communication, writing, time management, data analysis, and presentation. I also learnt hard skills such as performing tests (Jominy End-Quench, Optical Emissions Spectrometry, Leco chemical analysis, Charpy Impact Testing, Tensile Testing, Vickers Micro-hardness Testing, HBW Hardness Testing, etc), sample preparation (Marvel and Behringer Saw operation, Manuel polishing, Auto-polishing), and microscopy (Light Optical Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope).
