Throughout my time at DVF, I learnt practical new hand-stitching skills, various beading techniques, how to fabric source correctly and how to efficiently follow briefs from the designers above me. Working as part of New York Fashion week meant that I could experience the high internal pressures within the business from all departments, the last minute problems and the responsibility of resolving them. Other jobs included fixing and styling garments for the show, editing designs last minute, dressing the models, helping set up the catwalk, running errands and picking up last minute clothes from small businesses around the city who assist with designs.Designing for Spring 2015 was one of the final jobs during my time at DVF, this involved assisting the designers with reproducing their initial ideas into samples, experimenting with techniques and materials, sourcing fabrics, creating moodboards and administrative jobs such as sending out and receiving samples of embellishments from factories across the world inolved high organisation and a lot of paperwork. Another final job of mine was to take part in the designing of a dress for Lady Gaga to wear at a concert being held in New York City. This involved preparing final resources that were going to be used, such as measuring and cutting metal chain, hot fixing Swarovski crystals onto a playsuit and hand stitching chain/crystals onto a dress and skirt. We had a deadline of twenty hours to complete all the embellishment by hand. Show less

Design jobs included the use of my sewing skills and previous garment making knowledge using industrial sewing machines, I was taught how to structure garments and ‘finish’ them to a high standard which were then stocked in Liberty. Also involved with screen printing lengths of fabrics, mixing pastes, colour testing, pattern cutting and fabric sourcing.I was involved in various sales meetings and invited to help with events and parties… Show more Mix of both physical design jobs and sales/admin. I was highly involved with running a pop-up shop in Shoreditch, East London, which meant representing Draw In Light as a company and being in charge of sales, controlling payments, assembling the store and communicating with clients. I was trained on how too sell the brand and how to use the card machine and deal with payments and receipts. Other jobs included being sent on numerous errands for the company, delivering to clients, engaging with other businesses, stock taking and picking up materials. Show less

Use of practical skills included silk screen printing, processing screens, mixing dyes/print pastes, dying fabrics, colour matching, trend spotting, fabric sourcing, embellishment design, sales meetings, styling garments. I was also set independent design project briefs which involved the use of hand drawing skills and then development of design using CAD skills, such as, Photoshop and Illustrator to create the protoype sample for sales meetings.
