Responsible for: Establishing and leading the Future of Operational Meteorology partnerships work-stream, focused on the exploration and development of how partnerships would enable key capability development for achievement of the blueprint. Facilitating relationship management between the operational meteorological community and the Future of Operational Meteorology programme Deputising and acting on behalf of the Principle Fellow of Operational Meteorology. Achievements: Developed partnership strategy for the Future of Operational Meteorology programme to achieve benefits and outcomes, covering: Strategic capability to apply cognitive science to understand, enhance and replicate both customer and operational meteorologist decision making through the production process and value chain, with a particular focus on machine learning and product development processes. Responsible for: Leading the design, development and implementation of a free, online course for the general public within a confined time-frame. Achievements: Lead the design, development and delivery one of Future Learn’s top performing MOOCs, receiving high praise for innovative and media-rich content, reaching in excess of 25000 learners from more than 130 different countries. Managed concurrent, complex and disparate activities to ensure delivery within established timeframe and budget. Negotiated and implemented framework agreements and contracts to enable partnerships with Exeter University (avoiding costs of £40k platform fees) and key brands such as the Royal Met Society, the Royal Photographic Society, y and z for content development and enhancement. Worked collaboratively with colleagues from multiple directorates to gain insight into sector requirements and available capability during the design phase. This role was part of a network of training coordinators across FSD. I was responsible for the Operations Centre staff, ensuring that their training needs were met, from on the job training to CPD, to cross-office workshops and collaborations. This position required excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to be self-motivated, but also work well as part of a wider team. As well as collaborating on the content of various training and courses, I led the development and delivery of training including weather presenter training for STV, scriptwriting, briefing and winter workshops. I have an Award in Education and Training (AET) and use this as part of the Met Office College programme to deliver training using subject matter experts from across the organisation.

This role cemented my broadcasting and interview skills, as well as my ability to deal with the press and ad-hoc enquiries. It is a fast-paced job, and every day is different, although there are some routine tasks as well as project work. Communication skills are vital, and I was liaising with people from across the Met Office and beyond on a regular basis, all with very different backgrounds, knowledge and skill-sets. I was personally responsible for updating the Air Quality and Annual Reports and Accounts documentation, as well as several media projects including BBC's Flog It and Radio Four's Fry's English Delight.

Forecasting on the PWS Land bench required not only UK meteorology, but global knowledge, as we produced a daily World Weather document for the FCO, and Charities Forecast for various specified locations across the globe where humanitarian work was taking place. We were also responsible for Met Office output that the public would see, such as the website symbols and scripts, and we were out of hours cover for the Press Office. Aviation forecasting involved a specific skill set including coded Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts and airmets with their own language. I was selected to be part of a small team of forecasters dedicated to developing the retail products and services, the team did well, and our retail portfolio increased as a result.

As one of a small team of Weather Presenters for BBC Spotlight, I was responsible for numerous daily live TV broadcasts for BBC Southwest, BBC Channel Islands and occasionally additional regions, as well as BBC Radio Devon and Cornwall bulletins both live and pre-recorded, and updating online and social media content. This role required a calm and professional approach to sometimes pressurised and stressful situations. I co-developed a seasonal radio program called "The Weather Show" which my co-presenter and I produced, recorded, presented and edited ourselves.
