NHS Digital provides digital services, health informatics and statistical publications relating to the NHS. I am a government accredited statistician responsible for a range of Official Statistics which help policy makers, commissioners and frontline professionals to deliver the very best possible patient care.The GP and Dental Pay, and GP Data teams merged to form the Primary Care Workforce team and I became its Analytical Section Head. I was responsible for the overall strategic objectives and day to day management of the Statistical Governance Service on behalf of the Chief Statistician, overseeing the production and publication of around 270 official health and social care statistical publications per year. The service was delivered by a small team which I managed and led. Key responsibilities• For each publication, I ensured that the requirements of the Code of Practice for Statistics were met which reassures users that statistical materials are independently produced using sound and transparent methodologies and can be relied upon to underpin decisions. This included ensuring that the organisation met its legal obligations relating to release practices• I provided the HSCIC’s analytical teams with general statistical, methodological, commentary and presentational advice as well as addressing all queries relating to requirements under the Code of Practice for Statistics and other Acts, and matters of statistical disclosure control, confidentiality and data protection and produced bespoke training and guidance materials• I worked closely with media colleagues on the production of statistical press notices Key achievement/projects• Promoted good practice, developing training and guidance materials to support the analytical teams and decreased errors by encouraging retrospectives to learn from mistakes and therefore improve processing• Reinstated a peer review process with the aim of improving the quality of publications

I was the lead analyst producing a new set of clinical indicators, which are time-series-based measures that assess the quality and safety of care, processes and/or patient outcomes, for the newly formed NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs)Key responsibilities and achievements• I was responsible for the definition and methodological design of each indicator, including determining the most appropriate statistical technique to express any uncertainty associated with the indicator such as response bias or confidence intervals• My remit included identifying and sourcing the best possible data for each measure based upon criteria such as fitness for purpose, timeliness, coverage and completeness, burden of collection, stability of the planned collection and assurance of its ongoing availability• I undertook a feasibility study for each indicator and ran a public consultation for the entire CCG Outcome Indicator Set before constructing and publishing the indicators, specification documents and quality statements

I designed IT solutions and analytical tools to produce accurate performance figures and bespoke reports for 250 schools and implemented a pupil number forecasting model to plan future school place provision.

This remit included the recruitment of personnel and subcontracting staff on a project-by project basis along with the responsibility for managing each project’s budget.
