Specifically, it aims to find biological solutions for fusarium head blight (F. graminearum) and septoria leaf blotch (Z. tritici) in wheat.SABS will develop a new platform for screening large collections of microorganisms using automation and artificial intelligence. We currently work with DTU’s IBT strain collection of over 40,000 diverse microorganisms. These microorganisms and their natural chemistries will become tomorrows products, replacing the chemicals we currently rely on.

Working with phytase-producing strain isolation from soil for biofertilizer use as part of a team working on sustainable phosphorus use in agricultural soils. We looked at the microbial community attracted to precipitated phytate (a major contributor to organic P pools in soil) and identified key genera with the potential to release stored phosphorus in soils. We developed a method for isolating novel biofertilizer candidates using phyate as a bait substrate, by letting the complex and competitive soil environment do to selection for us. This position involved project planning, lab work, data management and analysis, as well as manuscript writing in a highly independent manner. I also taught the qPCR section of the masters level applied microbiology course, which involved lectures, lab work, assignments, and exam preparation.
