About Hemal Shah
I am a goal driven, determined Engineer with proven Aerospace structural analysis and multiphysics simulation work, leading design, risk mitigation, and compliance management. I am committed to engineering leadership due to the pursuit of excellence in my target discipline. My target areas include Aircraft Structural Analysis, and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) related to structural and multiphysics simulations (e.g. process modeling for composites manufacturing). As an engineering leader, I establish cross-agency relationships and build bridges between my company, customers, and suppliers. I emphasize direct communication, a strategic broad view and linkage across multiple systems. Finally, I drive a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach to engineering and apply it to company projects.Current role:- Responsible for the static strength analysis that supports structural substantiation of metallic and composite airframe components on VG Spaceships (VSS-Imagine, VSS-Delta) and VG Mothership (VMS-Eve). This includes acreage sizing of metallic/composite parts, FEM based linear buckling analysis, and structural joint sizing. Primary software used: Femap/Nastran, HyperSizer/HyperX, and in-house Excel-VBA spreadsheet tools. Representing the VG Stress Team as a facilitator for continuous process improvement for VG Engineering. Held interim roles for sub-component analysis focal on VSS-Imagine Wing, VSS-Delta Aft Fuselage, and analysis methods focal on VSS-Delta Fuselage Sub-IPT (Integrated Product Team).Past experience:- Static Loads engineer, Fatigue & Damage Tolerance engineer at Textron Aviation (2012-2017).- Project lead for a federal STTR involving composites cure-process modeling using ABAQUS/COMPRO; and overseeing fabrication, testing and NDI of autoclave cured parts for validation of the numerically predicted process-induced defects.- Research engineer on a project involving development of a low-cost RTM/VARTM experimental test setup for dry fiber AFP infusion research (2019-2020).- CAE research engineer for a research project involving welding of thermoplastic composites (2019-2020).- Research Assistant (RA, GRA) at the Aircraft Icing Laboratory, Wichita State University (2007-2012).

Sr. Stress Engineer
Stress Engineer Ii
• Responsible for the static strength analysis that supports structural substantiation of metallic and composite airframe components on VG Spaceships (VSS-Imagine, VSS-Delta) and VG Mothership (VMS-Eve). This includes acreage sizing of metallic/composite parts, linear buckling analysis, and structural joint sizing, using FEA methods as well as classical hand calculations. Primary software used: Femap/Nastran, HyperSizer/HyperX, and in-house Excel-VBA spreadsheet tools.• Supported MRB activity by analyzing structure to address MRB-tags (NCRs and NRIs – Non-Conformance Reports and Non-Recurring Incidents) for VSS-Imagine and VMS-Eve, by recommending structural modifications (dispositions) and or verifying UAI (Use As-Is) conditions.• Held interim roles for sub-component analysis focal on VSS-Imagine Wing, VSS-Delta Aft Fuselage, and analysis methods focal on VSS-Delta Fuselage Sub-IPT (Integrated Product Team). Released preliminary material properties and allowables for the Fuselage Stress Sub-IPT, and created a composite Bearing-Bypass spreadsheet-based tool for analyses supporting Preliminary Design Review.• Representing the VG Stress Team as a facilitator for continuous process improvement for VG Engineering.• Conducted trade studies for material selection and structural configurations during the conceptual design phase for VSS-Delta, including coordination with third party engineering suppliers. Released the preliminary material properties and allowables memo during the Conceptual Design Review phase for VSS-Delta (CoDR).• Created on-boarding documentation for members of the VSS-Delta Stress Team.
Research Engineer
Worked on research projects involving the development of numerical simulations of manufacturing process-induced defects in carbon-fiber reinforced thermoset polymer composites, thermoplastic welding simulations, and experimental test setup and procedures for dry fiber resin infusion processes.
Fatigue And Damage Tolerance Engineer
In this role, my initiative was to conduct fatigue (safe-life) and damage tolerance analyses on landing gear and support structure for new product development aircraft to achieve fatigue and damage tolerance conformance. I performed collaborative work with Stress, M&P, and Project teams in selecting appropriate and effective materials for landing gear components, support structure and assemblies based on S-N fatigue properties, static strength, environmental corrosion risks, and legacy best practices. Finally, I engaged in authoritative coordination of the release of engineering-design drawings of landing gear and related airframe support structures to aid development and manufacturing functions.
Static Loads Engineer
As a Static Loads Engineer, led investigative analysis and use of aircraft mass properties, aerodynamic characteristics, and control characteristics to calculate static external loads on the wing, fuselage, empennage, and landing gear; as part of the Part 25 loads certification efforts for the Citation family of business jets including the Sovereign, Latitude and Longitude; as well as the new Cessna Denali single-engine turboprop.I verifiably provided additional data to facilitate overall aircraft stress, DADT, and systems analyses. I successfully improved existing loads/simulation tools to provide efficient, timely solutions and deliverables to the Project. Finally, I responsively authored the final loads certification reports for the airframe components and models listed above.
Undergraduate And Graduate Research Assistant
When pursuing my Undergraduate, then Graduate Degrees, I worked as a Laboratory Research Assistant, specifically in lab experiment planning and performance, test data analysis, and technical report compilation for the development of hybrid ice protection systems on aircraft engine inlets.I performed collaborative conduction of model changes during wind tunnel tests that conclusively evaluated the aerodynamic performance of aircraft control surfaces and engine inlet models with simulated ice shapes and roughness.I supported these efforts with data reduction code development in Fortran 90 that validly reduced wind tunnel test data and evaluated the performance of vehicle ice-protection systems.
Engineering Statics Tutor
In this position I provided tutoring for Engineering Statics for college freshmen and sophomores.I experienced organizational skill development and experience was gained in group dynamics through tutor training and collaborating with other tutors.
International-Student Orientation Leader
In this leadership position, I was assigned to inform new international students about university expectations, rules and regulations.I also advised university officials and students on topics related to living and studying in the US as an international student.
